Women’s Health: Natural Dietary Supplements for Every Stage of Life

Women's health is much more than gynecology and preventive care. It includes your physical, mental, and social well-being at every stage of life. From your first cycle through family planning and the active middle years of life to menopause: your body goes through changes that are unique and deserve equally individualized nutrient support. Iron is a good example: it helps reduce tiredness and fatigue and supports the normal formation of red blood cells, and it is a key micronutrient especially for women of childbearing age. At Vitalplant, as a family-run manufacturer from Memmingen, we develop products that suit the female body in its various life stages — from Luna Balance to our plant-based micronutrient complex Meno Vital and the Libido Complex. Without unnecessary additives, lab-tested, and made with carefully selected raw materials.

Alles über Women's health

Why women have different needs than men

Women's health differs fundamentally from men's in many ways. Biological differences in the hormonal system, metabolism, and immune defense mean that women and men respond differently to illnesses, medications, and nutrients. The Women's Health Portal of the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA) provides well-founded information on this and emphasizes how indispensable a gender-sensitive perspective is.

Interesting: Women in Germany do live longer than men on average, but they also spend more years of life with health limitations. And the topic goes far beyond pregnancy or menstruation - federal health reporting shows that cardiovascular diseases, mental health, and autoimmune diseases must also be viewed from a gender-specific perspective.

In addition, psychosocial factors play a role: the double burden of work and family, personal health behavior, and differences in care all shape how healthily women move through the stages of life. Alongside medical diagnostics, health promotion, prevention, and conscious nutrient intake therefore play a central role.

Common topics in women's health

Your body goes through different phases over the course of life, each bringing its own challenges. Here you get an overview and the background knowledge to help you shape your routine consciously.

Cycle, hormonal changes, and PMS

The female cycle is a finely tuned process influenced by many factors. Many women experience physical or emotional changes in certain phases. Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) describes symptoms in the days before menstruation and is being intensively studied in research. If symptoms persist or are severe, a gynecological evaluation is the right first step.

Cycle irregularities and conditions such as endometriosis also affect many women. Endometriosis is a serious condition that is estimated to affect one in ten women of reproductive age. It can cause severe pain and affect fertility. Diagnosis and treatment belong in specialist hands.

Important: If you have persistent or severe cycle symptoms, suspect endometriosis, or experience cycle irregularities, a gynecological evaluation is the first step. Food supplements are not a treatment for illnesses and do not replace diagnostics or therapy.

Midlife and menopause

Menopause is not an illness, but a natural stage of life that every woman goes through at some point. During this phase, hormone balance changes: the production of estrogen and progesterone declines, which can affect various areas of the body. Many women experience menopause as a transition - a phase in which consciously shaping everyday life becomes especially valuable.

Plant extracts such as yam root, red clover, and sage have been traditionally used for centuries in European and Asian herbal medicine. There are currently no approved health claims under the HCVO for the plant extracts mentioned - we therefore cannot make any efficacy claims and present them instead as plants with a long tradition.

Important: If menopause symptoms are severely distressing, gynecological or medical advice is advisable. Depending on the individual situation, various approaches may be suitable - from hormone replacement therapy to herbal approaches and lifestyle adjustments. Food supplements are not a substitute for medical advice.

Vitality and sensuality

Vitality accompanies many women throughout life. With increasing age, during hormonal transition phases, and in demanding times, physical conditions can change - including in the area of sexual health. Lifestyle factors such as exercise, nutrition, sleep quality, and stress management play an important role here. If changes persist, medical or gynecological advice is advisable.

In Ayurvedic and traditional herbal medicine, various plants have been used for centuries. Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) comes from the Ayurvedic tradition. Maca (Lepidium meyenii) has been valued as a food and medicinal plant in the Peruvian Andes for centuries. Damiana is a plant traditionally used in Central American folk medicine.

LIBIDO COMPLEX: Plant extracts from traditional natural medicine

Iron: A key micronutrient for women

Iron is a mineral where the difference between women and men becomes especially clear: through monthly menstruation, you regularly lose iron, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding the need increases further. The DGE daily requirement for women of childbearing age is 15 mg - significantly higher than for men (10 mg).

Iron performs several functions in the body:

  • Iron contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
  • Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin
  • Iron contributes to normal oxygen transport in the body
  • Iron contributes to normal energy metabolism
  • Iron contributes to normal cognitive function
  • Iron contributes to the normal function of the immune system
  • Iron has a function in cell division

Important: Tiredness, poor concentration, paleness, or hair loss can have many causes. If symptoms persist, medical diagnostics including a blood count are the right step - a blanket self-diagnosis of "iron deficiency" does not necessarily lead to the right answer. Food supplements do not replace diagnostics or medical treatment.

IRON GLYCINATE: Highly bioavailable iron bisglycinate

If your needs are increased, your diet is unbalanced, or you are in certain phases of life, our Iron Glycinate can be a sensible supplement - with iron bisglycinate as an organic form, complemented by lactoferrin and natural vitamin C from acerola.

  • Iron bisglycinate - chelated form with high bioavailability
  • Iron contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
  • Iron contributes to normal red blood cell formation
  • With lactoferrin and acerola extract
  • Gentle on the stomach, without unnecessary additives

Skin, hair, nails, and connective tissue

Hormonal fluctuations, nutrient intake, and lifestyle can affect skin, hair, and nails. Conscious intake of the right micronutrients is a useful addition to external care.

  • Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and normal skin
  • Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, normal nails, and normal skin
  • Selenium contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and normal nails
  • Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin
  • Niacin contributes to the maintenance of normal skin

Silicon from field horsetail is also found in many beauty complexes - traditionally, the plant is valued for its structural properties.

Our beauty trio

Skin Hair Nails - comprehensive beauty complex with biotin, zinc, selenium, and other micronutrients.

Field horsetail - natural silicon from a traditional plant source.

Vein Complex - red vine leaf, rutin, OPC, and pine bark, complemented by vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels.

Prevention and early detection

Prevention is especially important in women's health - many diseases can be detected early through regular check-ups. An overview of statutory early detection examinations:

  • From age 20: annual gynecological examination with cervical smear for early detection of cervical cancer
  • From age 30: additional annual breast palpation examination
  • From age 35: health check-up (every 3 years), skin cancer screening (every 2 years)
  • From age 50: mammography screening (every 2 years), colorectal cancer screening
  • From age 55: colonoscopy (every 10 years)

💡 INFO Use your doctor's appointment to have your nutrient status checked as well. Iron, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folic acid are values that can be determined with a simple blood test.

Linsen, Kürbiskerne, Blattspinat, Rote Bete und getrocknete Aprikosen in kleinen Schalen
Lentils, spinach, and pumpkin seeds are among the best-known plant-based sources of iron.

The most important micronutrients for women at a glance

Some nutrients keep coming into focus in women's everyday lives - during the cycle, when trying to conceive and during pregnancy, in menopause, or in a demanding everyday life with work, family, and sport.

Iron: An essential mineral. Women regularly lose iron through menstruation; during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the need is additionally increased. Iron contributes to normal red blood cell formation, normal oxygen transport in the blood, and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. → Iron Glycinate

Folic acid (vitamin B9): The stable form of the B vitamin folate. There is a significantly increased need before a planned pregnancy and during early pregnancy. Folic acid contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy, normal blood formation, normal psychological function, and normal cell division. → Vitamin B Complex Forte

Vitamin D: Formed in the skin under UV-B exposure - in the darker months, the sun in Central Europe is often not sufficient for this. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, normal muscle function, and the normal function of the immune system. → Vitamin D3+

Magnesium: An essential mineral found especially in green vegetables, nuts, legumes, and whole grains. The need is increased during physical exertion or demanding phases. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and normal psychological function. → Magnesium Citrate

Zinc: A trace element found mainly in meat, cheese, whole grains, nuts, and legumes. Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, nails, and skin, the normal function of the immune system, and normal fertility and reproduction. → Zinc 25

Biotin (vitamin B7): A water-soluble B vitamin - formerly also called vitamin H. Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and normal skin. → Skin Hair Nails

Omega-3 (EPA and DHA): These long-chain omega-3 fatty acids are found mainly in oily sea fish and microalgae - if you eat a mostly plant-based diet, you should pay particular attention to your intake. EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function (with a daily intake of 250 mg). DHA also contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function (from 250 mg daily). → Omega 3 Vegan

B vitamins (B6, B12, folic acid): A group of water-soluble vitamins that are especially important in energy and nerve metabolism. B6, B12, and folic acid contribute to normal psychological function and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. → Vitamin B Complex Forte

Vitamin C: A water-soluble vitamin found in particularly high amounts in acerola, rose hips, citrus fruits, berries, and peppers. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, bones, and blood vessels, as well as the normal function of the immune system. → Vitamin C 1000

💡 INFO Important in midlife: From menopause onward, the risk of osteoporosis increases in women because the decline in estrogen accelerates bone loss. Vitamin D and calcium play a central role in bone health.

Stress, sleep, and mental well-being

For women too, stress, sleep, and mental well-being are part of the bigger picture. Hormonal fluctuations - during the cycle, pregnancy, after birth, or during menopause - can affect how you feel. On top of this, there are often psychosocial pressures such as multiple roles as a professional, mother, and caregiver. Anyone who consciously makes time for recovery and talks about what is on their mind is investing in their well-being.

Important: In the case of persistent emotional strain, depressive moods, signs of postpartum depression, or suicidal thoughts, professional counseling is the right step. Help is available from your GP, gynecologist, midwife, psychotherapists, or the telephone counseling service (0800 111 0 111, free of charge, 24/7). Food supplements replace neither psychotherapeutic nor medical treatment.

During phases of high strain - at work, in the family, or during the cycle - many women rely on targeted ingredients as part of their routine:

Ashwagandha - a traditional Ayurvedic plant whose root, with its characteristic withanolides, has been used for centuries. Our Organic Ashwagandha KSM-66® contains the world's most widely used standardized root extract.

Magnesium - contributes to the normal function of the nervous system, normal psychological function, and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Our Magnesium Citrate is an organic, highly soluble magnesium compound.

Melatonin - a messenger substance naturally produced by the body in the sleep-wake cycle. Melatonin helps shorten the time it takes to fall asleep (with an intake of 1 mg immediately before bedtime). Our Night Rest Complex combines melatonin with other plant extracts.

Organic Women's Tea - an organically certified herbal tea blend that can be easily integrated into everyday life as a daily ritual.

Food supplements for special stages of a woman's life

Trying to conceive, pregnancy, and breastfeeding

Trying to conceive is a stage of life in which nutrient intake plays a special role. Even before conception - ideally three months beforehand - folic acid intake should be ensured. Folic acid contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy and to normal blood formation.

Our Vitamin B Complex Forte provides all 8 essential B vitamins, including folic acid (900 µg). Supplemented with Iron Glycinate, Omega 3 Vegan (DHA contributes to normal development of the brain and eyes in the fetus with a maternal intake of an additional 200 mg DHA in addition to the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids) and Vitamin D3+ creates a solid basic supply.

Important: Pregnancy and breastfeeding are special phases of life with increased nutrient needs - but also with restrictions on certain plant extracts. Some plants, such as sage, chaste tree, yarrow, and others, are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Always discuss taking any food supplement with your doctor, gynecologist, or midwife.

Growing older actively: women's health from 50 onwards

From menopause onward, health priorities shift: bone health (osteoporosis prevention), heart health, and cognitive fitness come more strongly into focus. The decline in estrogen after menopause increases the risk of cardiovascular disease - a fact that was underestimated in women for a long time.

In addition to regular exercise and a balanced diet, targeted nutrients can help: Vitamin D3+ for bones and the immune system, Omega 3 Vegan for heart function (with at least 250 mg EPA/DHA daily), and Vein Complex with vitamin C, which contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels.
