Strong bones, flexible joints: dietary supplements from Vitalplant

Your musculoskeletal system carries you every day - a fascinating interplay of over 200 bones, more than 100 joints, and around 650 muscles that support you, protect you, and keep you moving. For this system to run smoothly, it needs the right building blocks: vitamin D, vitamin K, and magnesium contribute to the maintenance of normal bones. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones and cartilage - exactly the structures that matter in an active everyday life. At Vitalplant, as a family-run manufacturer from Memmingen, we develop products that combine selected nutrients and plant extracts for joints, muscles, and bones - from our comprehensive Joint Complex with over 23 micronutrients to highly dosed frankincense capsules with 90% boswellic acid, and MSM & glucosamine as a classic duo. Anatomy of the musculoskeletal system — how bones, joints, and muscles work together

To understand how important a good nutrient supply is for your musculoskeletal system, it helps to look at anatomy and physiology. Your skeleton forms the body's supporting framework and consists of around 206 bones connected by joints. It fulfills three key functions:

  • Support and movement: Your skeleton gives you stability and acts as the lever arm for your muscles
  • Protection for your organs: The skull protects the brain, the rib cage the heart and lungs, and the spine the spinal cord
  • Blood formation: Your blood cells are produced in the red bone marrow

Bones are by no means rigid and lifeless. Bone tissue is constantly being built up and broken down — a process known as bone remodeling. Inside is the spongiosa, a sponge-like bony framework that provides stability with minimal weight. Bones have a good blood supply and respond to mechanical stress: Regular exercise stimulates your bone metabolism, while lack of movement leads to breakdown.

Your skeletal muscles make it possible for you to move. Muscles are attached to bones by tendons and generate movement through contraction. Your core muscles stabilize your spine and protect against poor posture, while the muscles of the limbs provide strength and mobility. Joints and muscles form a functional unit — if one of these elements is weakened, the entire system suffers.

💡 INFO The human skeleton renews itself completely about every 7–10 years. With an adequate supply of certain nutrients such as vitamin K and vitamin D — both contribute to the maintenance of normal bones — along with regular exercise, you can do something good for your bones.

The physiology of the joints

Your joints are the movable connections between two bones. They allow you to bend, stretch, and move in different directions. There are different types of joints: Your knee joint, the largest joint in the body, is a hinge joint; the shoulder joint is a ball-and-socket joint with a particularly wide range of motion; and the elbow joint connects three bones. Not all joints are movable — the bones of the skull, for example, are connected by sutures that ossify over the course of life.

Every true joint has a characteristic structure:

  • Articular cartilage: a smooth, elastic layer at the ends of the bones that serves as a shock absorber and gliding surface
  • Joint capsule: encloses the joint and forms the sealed joint space
  • Synovial fluid: the joint lubricant nourishes the cartilage — because cartilage has no blood vessels of its own
  • Ligaments: stabilize the joint and prevent excessive movement

The joint fluid nourishes the cartilage through a pumping mechanism: Under load, used fluid is pressed out; when the load is removed, fresh, nutrient-rich fluid is absorbed. That is also why regular movement is so important for your joints.

Among other things, our Vitalplant products provide vitamin C — a nutrient that contributes to normal collagen formation for normal cartilage function. More in Joint Complex with over 23 micronutrients.

Common topics related to joints and cartilage

As you get older or under persistent strain, your joints can change. Osteoarthritis and arthritis are two terms that are often mentioned — but they have different meanings.

Osteoarthritis describes progressive cartilage breakdown and is the most common joint disease worldwide. Joints under heavy strain such as the knee, hip, shoulder, and the small joints of the fingers are especially affected. Arthritis, on the other hand, is an inflammatory joint disease in which the immune system attacks joint tissue. Both are medical diagnoses that must be treated individually.

Important: If you have joint discomfort, swelling, stiffness, or persistent pain, a medical or orthopedic evaluation is the right first step. Diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis, arthritis, or other joint diseases belong in the hands of specialists. Food supplements replace neither diagnostics nor medical treatment. The product information below is intended to present our product range, not to diagnose or treat.

What you can do in everyday life: Targeted exercise, a balanced diet, and mindful nutrient intake are the three classic pillars of an active lifestyle. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for normal cartilage function.

The most important micronutrients for bones and joints at a glance

Bones and joints depend on interaction. A single nutrient does little here — only the combination of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements creates what the body needs for a stable skeleton and flexible connections.

Vitamin D plays a central role here. It contributes to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus, to the maintenance of normal bones, and to normal muscle function. It is often combined with vitamin K, which also contributes to the maintenance of normal bones — both together can be found in ourVitamin D3 + K2.

Vitamin C It contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones, cartilage, and blood vessels. Collagen is the structural protein that gives connective tissue its strength — keywordVitamin C 1000 with Rosehip.

Magnesium is versatile: It contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, to normal muscle function, and to normal energy metabolism. OurMagnesium 3-in-1 Complex combines three magnesium compounds in one capsule.

In connective tissue itself, other trace elements come together: Manganese contributes to normal connective tissue formation and to the maintenance of normal bones, copper to the maintenance of normal connective tissue, and zinc to the maintenance of normal bones. This trio can be found in ourJoint Complex.

Finally, silicon is a trace element that naturally occurs in bones and connective tissue — and is particularly concentrated in horsetail from plant sources. As there are currently no authorized health claims for silicon, we mention it here without making any effect-related claims; if you would like to get to know the plant, you can find it in ourHorsetail Capsules.

💡 INFO Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. The two vitamins complement each other well. Our Vitamin D3+ combines both vitamins in one formula.

Frankincense, MSM & glucosamine — traditional and naturally occurring substances

Frankincense (Boswellia Serrata) — a traditional botanical from Ayurveda

Frankincense is much more than a fragrance used in church. In Ayurvedic tradition, the resin of the Boswellia tree has been used for thousands of years. The boswellic acids it contains are the focus of modern research and make frankincense a traditional part of botanical practice. As there are no authorized health claims for boswellic acid, we cannot make any promises of effect here — we present frankincense as a traditional botanical.

FRANKINCENSE CAPSULES — 90% boswellic acid, highly concentrated

Premium extract from the resin of the Boswellia tree with a standardized concentration of boswellic acids.

✓ 600 mg Boswellia Serrata per capsule with 90% boswellic acid — top value in Germany

✓ Premium extract from frankincense trees at least 10 years old from controlled wild harvesting in India

✓ Only resins from the 2nd scraping for high purity and substance content

✓ 120 capsules · no unnecessary additives · vegan

MSM & glucosamine — substances naturally produced by the body

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic sulfur compound that naturally occurs in many foods and also in the human body. Glucosamine is an amino sugar that naturally occurs in the connective tissue and cartilage of the human body. Both substances have been used as food supplements for decades. There are currently no authorized health claims for MSM and glucosamine under the HCVO.

MSM & GLUCOSAMINE — the classic duo

The two naturally occurring building blocks combined in one capsule: organically bound sulfur (MSM) and the natural amino sugar glucosamine.

✓ 500 mg each of MSM and glucosamine per capsule

✓ MSM from methylsulfonylmethane

✓ Glucosamine from a plant-based source

✓ No unnecessary additives · vegan · lab-tested

Bones: tissue that remains active throughout life

Strong, healthy bones are an important foundation for your active everyday life. Up to around age 30, your body builds bone mass; after that, a slow natural breakdown begins. Various factors influence your bone density:

  • Genetics: baseline bone density is partly influenced by family history
  • Hormonal status: estrogen levels in particular play an important role in women
  • Diet: calcium, vitamin D, vitamin K, magnesium, and protein as building blocks
  • Exercise: strength training and weight-bearing exercise in particular stimulate bone metabolism
  • Lifestyle factors: smoking and excessive alcohol consumption have a negative effect

Osteoporosis, meaning pathological bone loss, is a medical diagnosis that must be individually assessed and treated. Women after menopause in particular have an increased risk. If osteoporosis is suspected or risk factors are present, medical advice is your first step — for example through a bone density measurement (DXA).

Important: If osteoporosis is suspected or if you have bone fractures without an identifiable cause, medical evaluation is necessary. Food supplements replace neither diagnostics nor medical treatment. Maintaining normal bones through diet and targeted nutrient intake is a meaningful complement to an active lifestyle — but it does not replace therapy.

Sesame, almonds, and cheese are among the foods richest in calcium.

Exercise: The best routine for the musculoskeletal system

An active life is a central pillar of a healthy musculoskeletal system. Regular physical activity can help maintain your bones and muscles normally — and at the same time keeps the joint fluid moving, through which cartilage is supplied with nutrients. This pumping mechanism only works with movement.

Sports such as swimming, cycling, and Nordic walking place moderate strain on your joints and are well suited to a mindful routine. Targeted strength training is also valuable: Strong muscles relieve your joints, stabilize the spine, and protect against poor posture. Your core muscles especially deserve attention — they form the foundation for a healthy back.

Diet and exercise must go hand in hand: Without an adequate nutrient supply, your body cannot make optimal use of the training stimuli from sport. Proteins provide important building blocks, vitamin D and vitamin K contribute to the maintenance of normal bones, magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, and vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for normal cartilage function.

Tips for joint-friendly movement in everyday life

  • Work 30 minutes of moderate activity into your routine on most days of the week
  • Alternate between endurance, strength, and mobility
  • Warm up before exercise and stretch afterward
  • Listen to your body — have persistent pain checked by a doctor
  • Take the stairs instead of the lift, ride a bike instead of driving — every little bit of movement counts
