Coconut milk and flaxseed make this powder creamy

Organic Vital Beauty by Vitalplant differs from our other powders because of its fat content. At 31,36 g per 100 g, it is the richest, and that is exactly why it becomes creamy when mixed.

The nine ingredients

Açaí comes first. The fruit of the Amazon palm is an exception among berries because its flesh is naturally rich in fat rather than sugar. Flaxseed and coconut milk powder add to this proportion, with the saturated fatty acids at 14,40 g per 100 g coming almost entirely from the coconut milk.

Maqui from Patagonia, acerola, and wild blueberries contribute the deep violet color and fruity acidity. Vanilla powder rounds off the flavor.

Tremella, known in German as silver ear, is a jelly fungus that has been used in Chinese cuisine for centuries. It grows on deciduous wood and forms white, curly fruiting bodies. Here it is included as an extract.

What the product name does not promise

Beauty is a name, not a claim. None of the nine ingredients is permitted in the EU to make a health claim for skin, hair, or nails, and we do not imply one here.

What can be substantiated is the fiber content: 21,56 g per 100 g, mainly from flaxseed and the fruit powders. This means the powder meets the requirement for the claim high fiber content.

Sweetness, origin, and storage

It is sweetened with stevia, that is, with steviol glycosides from sweet herb. No sugar is added; the 14,53 g per 100 g come from the fruit and coconut ingredients themselves.

All ingredients except the sweetener come from certified organic farming, inspection body number DE-ÖKO-039. The recipe is purely plant-based.

Because of the high fat content, the powder tends to clump, so seal the pouch well, store it in a cool, dry place, and do not freeze it.

Behind Vitalplant is Christian Lazar, a licensed pharmacist with over 35 years of professional experience at Stern Pharmacy.

Important information: Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the stated recommended daily intake. Keep out of reach of young children.

Allergens: May contain traces of tree nuts (pistachio), milk, celery, mustard, sesame, sulfites, and cereals containing gluten.

Storage: As this natural product tends to clump quickly without artificial additives, we recommend sealing it carefully after each use and using it up promptly. Store in a cool, dry place, do not freeze, and protect from direct sunlight.

Açaí must be processed on the same day

Euterpe oleracea is a slender palm that grows up to twenty-five meters tall in the flooded forests of the Amazon. To this day, it is still harvested mostly as it always has been: the collectors climb the trunk and cut off the fruit clusters by hand.

After that, a race against time begins. The flesh forms only a thin layer around a large seed and spoils within a day because its high fat content oxidizes quickly. The fruit is therefore soaked, pulped, pasteurized, and then freeze-dried on site.

A berry that is more like an olive

Most berries store sugar. Açaí stores fat instead, mainly oleic acid, the same monounsaturated fatty acid that also characterizes olive oil. On a dry-mass basis, the flesh is about half made up of it.

That is why açaí tastes hardly sweet, but rather tart and slightly earthy, and why it is traditionally eaten in Brazil as a savory food too, with fish and cassava. Botanically, the fruit is not actually a berry, but a drupe with a single large seed.

Why the sweetener is not organic

Our label says that all ingredients except the sweetener come from organic cultivation. There is a legal reason for that. Steviol glycosides are not the leaf of the stevia plant, but individual substances extracted and purified from it, and as such they are considered a food additive with the number E 960.

For organic products, only a short, final list of additives is permitted, and sweeteners are not among them. So there can be no steviol glycoside labeled as organic. Dried stevia leaf, on the other hand, is not approved as a food in the EU.

Vanilla is an orchid

Vanilla planifolia is the only orchid from which a food is produced. Its flower opens for just a few hours on a single day. Outside Central America, the original pollinator is missing, which is why every single flower worldwide has to be pollinated by hand.

This technique was developed in 1841 by a twelve-year-old enslaved boy named Edmond Albius on the island of Réunion; only then did cultivation outside Mexico become possible at all. The harvested pods are green and odorless. Their aroma develops only over months through scalding, sweating, and drying. Together, hand pollination and post-processing make vanilla, after saffron, the most expensive spice in the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Take 8 g daily, i.e. one measuring scoop, stir into 250 ml of water, milk, or juice, and consume immediately. Also suitable as an addition to smoothies or porridge.

Açaí, flaxseed, maqui, coconut milk powder, acerola, wild blueberries, tremella extract, vanilla powder, and stevia. Except for the sweetener, all ingredients come from controlled organic cultivation. Açaí is listed first and therefore present in the highest amount.

At 31.36 g per 100 g, it is the richest of our powders, which is also why it has such a creamy consistency when mixed. The coconut milk powder, flaxseed, and the açaí itself are responsible: among berries, this Amazon fruit is a special case because its pulp is naturally high in fat rather than sugar. The saturated fatty acids, at 14.40 g per 100 g, come almost entirely from the coconut milk.

Tremella fuciformis, known in German as white jelly fungus, is a jelly fungus that has been used in Chinese cuisine for centuries. It grows on hardwood and forms white, ruffled fruiting bodies that resemble coral. In this formula, it is included as an extract.

With stevia, i.e. with steviol glycosides from the sweet herb. No sugar has been added; the 14.53 g per 100 g come from the fruit and coconut ingredients themselves. Based on a 8 g serving, that is 1.16 g.

With 21.56 g of fiber per 100 g, the powder meets the requirement for the claim “high fiber content.” It comes mainly from flaxseed and the fruit powders. The energy value is 2,013.93 kJ, or 482.51 kcal per 100 g, which is explained by the high fat content.

Fruity-tart with a distinct vanilla note and creamy texture. Maqui, acerola, and wild blueberries provide the deep violet color and acidity, while coconut milk and vanilla add roundness. Mixed into plant-based drink, it tastes fuller-bodied than in water.

The pouch contains 240 g and lasts 30 servings at 8 g per day, so one month. Due to its high fat content, the powder tends to clump; close the pouch tightly after each use and store it in a cool, dry place. Inspection body number DE-ÖKO-039.
