The Joint Complex from Vitalplant is the most comprehensive formula in our range: 26 ingredients in two daily capsules, from glucosamine and hyaluronic acid to twelve vitamins and eight minerals.

What’s inside the daily dose

700 mg glucosamine and 460 mg vegan chondroitin alternative. The glucosamine is available as hydrochloride in vegan quality, and the chondroitin alternative is derived from algae extract. Classic chondroitin comes from animal cartilage.

50 mg hyaluronic acid and 50 mg MSM. Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that occurs naturally in connective tissue. MSM stands for methylsulfonylmethane, an organic sulfur compound.

Twelve vitamins and eight minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin K2, zinc, manganese, copper, selenium, chromium, molybdenum, and iodine. Plus 10 mg quercetin, 10 mg resveratrol, and 2 mg boron.

What the nutrients do

Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for normal cartilage function and for normal bones. Collagen is the structural protein that cartilage and connective tissue are largely made of.

Manganese contributes to normal connective tissue formation, copper to the maintenance of normal connective tissue. Vitamin K and zinc contribute to the maintenance of normal bones.

All claims listed above are included in the EU Register of authorized health claims. For glucosamine, chondroitin, hyaluronic acid, and MSM, there are no authorized claims. For these, we state the amount and source.

Joint Complex capsules: composition and quality

Packing 26 ingredients into two capsules is a matter of formula density. The capsule shell is made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. Glucosamine, chondroitin alternative, and MSM are vegan, making the product completely plant-based. Bottled in amber glass, each batch is tested for heavy metals by an independent laboratory.

Three groups in one formula

26 ingredients may sound like a lot, but they fall into three clearly distinguishable groups.

The first are the structural ingredients: glucosamine, the chondroitin component, MSM, and hyaluronic acid. They make up the largest share by amount and together in two capsules amount to around 1.3 grams. The second group consists of two plant compounds, resveratrol and quercetin, both from the polyphenol class. The third group is the vitamins and trace elements.

What is substantiated and what is not

This separation is the most honest part of the formula, which is why it is stated here explicitly. For glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, hyaluronic acid, resveratrol, and quercetin, there are no approved health claims in the EU. We state amounts for these only.

The third group carries the claims: vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of cartilage and bones. Manganese contributes to normal connective tissue formation, copper to the maintenance of normal connective tissue. Zinc, manganese, and vitamin K contribute to the maintenance of normal bones. That is exactly why these nutrients are in the formula and not just included as extras.

Why this formula is free from animal ingredients

In this product category, that is the exception. Glucosamine is usually obtained from shellfish shells, chondroitin from animal cartilage, mostly from bovine trachea or shark cartilage. Both raw materials are therefore excluded for vegetarians and vegans, and the shellfish origin is also a mandatory allergen declaration.

Instead, this formula uses vegan glucosamine from fermentation and an algae extract as the chondroitin component. The MSM is also declared vegan, and the capsule shell is made from plant-based cellulose.

What 26 ingredients mean

A broad formula has a price: there is limited room in two capsules. If you are looking for a single ingredient in a large amount, you will find it in the respective standalone product. Our MSM and glucosamine capsules, for example, provide 500 mg glucosamine per capsule compared with 350 mg here, but without the micronutrients. Breadth or amount, that is the choice.

This is the most unusual aspect of this formula. Glucosamine usually comes from shellfish shells and chondroitin from animal cartilage. Here, vegan glucosamine is used instead, and an algae extract serves as the chondroitin component. The MSM is also declared vegan. This makes it possible to create a product range without animal-derived raw materials, something that is otherwise rarely found in this category.

Our MSM and glucosamine capsules focus on these two substances in a correspondingly larger amount. The joint complex distributes the amount across significantly more ingredients and, above all, supplements the vitamins and trace elements that are even permitted to carry claims. Anyone taking both in parallel should add up the glucosamine amounts.

Because they make up the substantiated part of the formula. Vitamin C, manganese, copper, zinc, and vitamin K are exactly the nutrients for which claims about cartilage, connective tissue, and bones are approved. The daily dose provides, among other things, 100 mg vitamin C, 1,200 µg manganese, 680 µg copper, 9 mg zinc, and 270 µg vitamin K2.

Caution is warranted here, because the formula already contains 26 ingredients. Anyone also taking a multivitamin, zinc, selenium, or vitamin K can quickly end up with high total amounts. Add up the daily amounts before combining products. With pure plant-based products such as frankincense, there is no overlap.

The bottle contains 90 capsules and lasts 45 days at two capsules per day. It is filled in amber glass, which makes sense for a formula with riboflavin, folic acid, and vitamin A: all three are sensitive to light. Store in a cool, dry place.
