Korean ginseng with at least 5 percent ginsenosides

Many plants are called ginseng, but they are often not botanically related. The Panax Ginseng capsules from Vitalplant contain genuine Korean ginseng, botanically designated as Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer.

Why the addition C. A. Meyer matters

C. A. Meyer stands for Carl Anton von Meyer, the botanist who scientifically described the species in 1843. Such author abbreviations are an established part of the botanical name and make it unambiguous.

The difference from other ginseng species. Siberian ginseng is botanically Eleutherococcus senticosus and is not closely related to Panax. American ginseng is also a separate species. Anyone who wants genuine Korean ginseng should therefore look for the full designation.

Ginsenosides as a measure. Ginsenosides are triterpene saponins, the characteristic active compounds in the ginseng root. Our extract is standardized to at least 5 percent. Without this information, it is hardly possible to compare the quality of a ginseng extract.

Cultivation and harvest in Korea

Ginseng is a demanding crop. The roots are usually not harvested until after four to six years, because they gain size and substance during this time. After harvest, the soil must rest for many years before ginseng can be grown there again.

This explains why Korean ginseng remains a comparatively expensive raw material to this day and why the origin and age of the root matter.

Panax Ginseng capsules: composition and quality

The formula consists of two ingredients: the ginseng root extract and the capsule shell made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. No fillers, no anti-caking agents, no colorants. The product is vegan and gluten-free, filled in amber glass. Each batch is tested for heavy metals by an independent laboratory.

Behind Vitalplant is Christian Lazar, a licensed pharmacist with over 35 years of professional experience at Stern Apotheke.

Three plants, one trade name

Under the name Ginseng, three different plants are sold in trade, and only two of them are even related to each other.

Panax ginseng, Korean ginseng, is the species in these capsules. Panax quinquefolius, American ginseng, is a separate species in the same genus with a different ginsenoside profile. The so-called Siberian ginseng, on the other hand, is botanically not ginseng at all: Eleutherococcus senticosus, taiga root, belongs to the same family of Araliaceae, but contains completely different ingredients. Anyone comparing them should pay attention to the botanical name.

Six years until harvest

Panax ginseng is a perennial herb that grows in partial shade and is shaded in cultivation. The root is harvested no earlier than after four years, usually after five to six years. Younger roots contain significantly fewer ginsenosides and therefore fetch lower prices.

After that, the soil is depleted for years and must lie fallow before ginseng can be planted there again. This long cycle, with land tied up for more than half a decade, is the real reason for the raw material price.

White and red ginseng

After harvest, two paths diverge. White ginseng is peeled and simply dried. Red ginseng is treated with steam before drying, which gives it a reddish color and makes it harder.

This is not a cosmetic decision: during steaming, the ginsenoside pattern changes, and individual compounds are converted into others. White and red ginseng are therefore not the same product in two colors, but two raw materials with different compositions.

What ginsenosides are

Ginsenosides are saponins, more precisely triterpene saponins. More than forty different ones have been described, named after their behavior in chromatography. They are regarded as the characteristic ingredients of the genus and therefore serve as a standardization marker.

Our extract is obtained through gentle water-ethanol extraction at low heat and contains at least 5 percent ginsenosides. The solvent is then completely removed. In trade, there are also plain root powders with no stated content at all; in those, the ginsenoside content cannot be quantified.

Our Panax Ginseng capsules are manufactured to the highest quality standards and independently tested for heavy metals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Take 2 to 3 capsules daily whole with plenty of liquid with a meal. This corresponds to 1,000 to 1,500 mg of root extract per day. If you are just starting, begin with two capsules. Many people prefer to take ginseng in the morning or at lunchtime rather than late in the evening.

Ginsenosides are the characteristic saponins of the ginseng root and the usual standardization value. At least 5 percent means: In 500 mg of extract, there are at least 25 mg of ginsenosides. In stores, root powder can also be found with no indication at all; in that case, the content simply cannot be quantified.

Three completely different things. Our extract comes from Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer, Korean ginseng. American ginseng is its own species, Panax quinquefolius. So-called Siberian ginseng is botanically not ginseng at all, but the taiga root Eleutherococcus senticosus, only distantly related and with different active ingredients.

Because the root needs time. Panax ginseng grows slowly and is not harvested until after four to six years; younger roots contain significantly fewer ginsenosides. The soil is then depleted for years and must be left to rest. This long cycle is reflected in the raw material price.

Through gentle water-ethanol extraction at low heat. The solvent is then completely removed, leaving none in the finished extract. Only the root is used, not the leaves or berries, which have a different ginsenoside profile.

Yes. The ingredients list has two entries: Panax ginseng root extract and the capsule shell made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. No anti-caking agents, no flow agents, no colorings or fillers.

Please discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist beforehand. This is especially true for ginseng, because it is one of the medicinal plants that has been studied for the longest time and most intensively, so a great deal is known about it. The decision should also be left to professionals during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

The bottle contains 120 capsules. At two capsules per day, it lasts 60 days; at three capsules, 40 days. It is packaged in amber glass, which blocks the UV portion of light. Store in a cool, dry place and reseal the bottle היט?
