Fourteen ingredients with zinc, B vitamins, and pantothenic acid

Vitalplant’s Brain Complex combines plant and mushroom extracts with two phospholipid compounds and four micronutrients. The daily dose is three capsules.

What’s in the daily dose

360 mg plant extract complex from Brahmi, ginger, and rosemary. Brahmi, botanically Bacopa monnieri, is a marsh plant from South Asia.

360 mg Hericium extract with 30 percent polysaccharides, plus 270 mg Hericium powder and 270 mg Tremella fuciformis extract. Tremella is a jelly-like mushroom that is also used as an edible mushroom in East Asia.

180 mg phosphatidylserine and 120 mg citicoline. Both belong to the phospholipids or their precursors, and thus to the building blocks of cell membranes.

60 mg Ginkgo biloba extract in a 45:1 ratio, standardized to 24 percent flavone glycosides and 6 percent terpene lactones. Also included are 120 mg each of pine bark and larch bark extract, plus 15 mg black pepper extract.

What the micronutrients do

Pantothenic acid contributes to normal mental performance. Zinc contributes to normal cognitive function.

Thiamine and vitamin B12 contribute to the normal function of the nervous system and to normal psychological function. All of the statements listed are included in the EU Register of authorized health claims.

There are no authorized claims for the plant and mushroom extracts, for phosphatidylserine, or for citicoline. For these, we state the amount and standardization.

Brain Complex capsules: composition and quality

Fourteen ingredients in one formula, with no fillers, anti-caking agents, or colorants. The capsule shell is made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. The product is vegan and gluten-free, filled in amber glass. Each batch is tested for heavy metals by an independent laboratory.

Behind Vitalplant is Christian Lazar, a licensed pharmacist with over 35 years of professional experience at Stern Pharmacy.

Recommended intake: Take 3 capsules daily, unchewed, with sufficient liquid during a meal.

Important notes: Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and healthy lifestyle. The stated recommended daily intake must not be exceeded. Keep out of the reach of small children.

Allergens: According to the raw material specification, it contains no allergens requiring declaration pursuant to Annex II of Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place, do not freeze, and protect from direct sunlight.

Ginkgo has no living relatives

Ginkgo biloba is the last surviving species of its own plant division. It is neither a conifer nor a broadleaf tree in the usual sense, but stands botanically on its own; its closest relatives have been extinct for millions of years.

The fan-shaped leaf shows this too: the veins repeatedly fork and do not form a network, as they do in broadleaf trees. Ginkgos are dioecious, so male and female trees are separate; in cities, almost only male trees are planted, because the seeds of female trees smell unpleasant when they rot.

What 45:1, 24 and 6 percent mean

For decades, Ginkgo has had a fixed specification by which extracts are measured: 24 percent flavone glycosides and 6 percent terpene lactones, namely ginkgolides and bilobalide. An extract without these two figures simply cannot be compared with a standardized one.

The ratio 45:1 also describes the concentration: 1 kilogram of extract is obtained from 45 kilograms of dried leaf. So the 60 mg in the daily dose corresponds to around 2.7 grams of leaf material.

Two unusual organisms

Bacopa monnieri, sold as Brahmi, is a creeping marsh plant with thick, water-storing leaves. Botanically, it belongs to the plantain family and is therefore related to psyllium plantain; in the aquarium trade, it is known as small water hyssop.

Tremella fuciformis, the silver ear, is a gelatinous fungus with a special feature: it does not break down wood, but lives off other fungi that sit in the wood. It can therefore only be cultivated together with its host fungus. In East Asia, it is used as an edible mushroom and as an ingredient for desserts.

Phospholipids and bark extracts

Phosphatidylserine was originally obtained from bovine brain. After the BSE crisis, the industry completely switched to plant-based raw materials; today it comes from soy or sunflower lecithin. Citicoline, chemically cytidine diphosphate choline, is produced by fermentation.

The two bark extracts are by-products of forestry. Pine bark comes from the maritime pine grown in the reforestation areas of southwest France, while larch bark is a by-product of wood processing. In both cases, a raw material is used that would otherwise end up as waste wood.

Our Brain Complex Capsules are manufactured to the highest quality standards and independently tested for heavy metals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Take 3 capsules daily, unchewed, with enough liquid, with a meal. You can take them all at once or spread them out over the day. The meal is important because phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid and is better absorbed with some fat from food.

The documented portion consists of the four micronutrients. Pantothenic acid contributes to normal mental performance. Zinc contributes to normal cognitive function. Vitamin B12 and thiamine contribute to the normal function of the nervous system and to normal psychological function. For the plant extracts and medicinal mushrooms, we state the quantities.

Per capsule: 120 mg plant extract complex from Brahmi, ginger, and rosemary, 120 mg Hericium extract with 30 percent polysaccharides, 90 mg Tremella extract, 90 mg Hericium powder, 60 mg phosphatidylserine, 40 mg each of citicoline, pine bark and larch bark extract, 20 mg ginkgo biloba extract, and 5 mg black pepper extract. Also contains vitamins B1, B5, B12, and zinc.

Bacopa monnieri, known in German as small-leaved water hyssop, is a creeping marsh plant that grows in the humid regions of India and has long been used there. In aquatics, it is known as an aquatic plant. In our formula, it is included together with ginger and rosemary in the plant extract complex.

1 kilogram of extract is produced from 45 kilograms of ginkgo leaves. It is also double-standardized: to 24 percent flavone glycosides and 6 percent terpene lactones. This is the typical profile of high-quality ginkgo extracts. Ginkgo itself is a living fossil, the only surviving species of a plant group that has existed for around 200 million years.

Both are substances naturally produced by the body and belong to the phospholipid group. Phosphatidylserine is a component of cell membranes and is found in particularly high amounts in nervous tissue. Citicoline, chemically cytidine diphosphate choline, is a precursor in phospholipid metabolism. Each capsule contains 60 mg and 40 mg respectively.

Yes, several times. We also carry Hericium as organic Hericium capsules and in the organic medicinal mushroom complex, Tremella is included in the organic Vital Beauty powder, pine bark in the men's capsules and in the vein complex. Anyone taking several products in parallel should add up the amounts.

The jar contains 90 capsules and lasts exactly 30 days at three capsules per day, so one month. It is packaged in amber glass. Store in a cool, dry place and close the jar tightly again after each use.
