Cold-pressed organic black cumin oil with natural vitamin E

Black cumin has been used for centuries in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East as a spice and oil plant. Vitalplant’s organic black cumin oil capsules provide the cold-pressed oil in capsule form, supplemented with natural vitamin E.

What’s in the capsules

Black cumin oil from organic farming. The oil is obtained from the seeds of Nigella sativa, a buttercup family plant with striking pale blue flowers. The seeds are black, angular, and about two millimeters in size. The raw material comes from EU agriculture and is certified according to the EU organic regulation, inspection body number DE-ÖKO-039.

About half of the oil is linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid that the body cannot produce on its own. It is therefore one of the essential fatty acids.

Vitamin E as D-alpha-tocopherol. This is the natural form of the vitamin, not the synthetic one. One capsule contains 5 mg, which corresponds to 42 percent of the nutrient reference value.

What vitamin E does

Vitamin E helps protect cells from oxidative stress. This statement is included in the EU Register of authorized health claims, so it has been scientifically reviewed and officially approved.

For the oil itself, we state its origin, cultivation method, and fatty acid profile. That can be verified.

Organic black cumin oil capsules: composition and quality

The formula consists of three ingredients: the organic black cumin oil, the capsule shell made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and vitamin E. No fillers, no colorants, no artificial preservatives. The product is vegan and gluten-free. Oils are sensitive to light, which is why it is filled into amber glass. Each batch is tested for heavy metals by an independent laboratory.

Behind Vitalplant is Christian Lazar, a licensed pharmacist with more than 35 years of professional experience at the Stern Pharmacy.

Neither cumin nor caraway

The name is misleading. True caraway is Carum carvi, cumin is Cuminum cyminum; both belong to the umbellifer family and are therefore related to carrot, fennel, and parsley.

Black cumin is related to neither of them. Nigella sativa belongs to the buttercup family, the same family as buttercup, larkspur, and Christmas rose. It also has nothing to do with black pepper, which the seeds are sometimes mistaken for because of their color. Three similar kitchen names, three plants that are botanically far apart.

The relative from the ornamental garden

Anyone who has seen Nigella before usually knows love-in-a-mist, Nigella damascena, a popular bedding plant with light blue flowers in a ring of delicate, thread-like bracts.

Nigella sativa looks similar, but blooms more faintly and is grown for its seeds, not for its appearance. After flowering, it forms a swollen capsule with several compartments; the black, angular seeds sit inside. They are harvested when the capsules are dry and rattle when shaken.

What cold pressing means

In cold pressing, the seeds are mechanically pressed without preheating. Heat is generated only by friction in the screw press. The oil is then filtered, but not refined.

In the industrial counterpart, the seeds are preheated, partly re-extracted with solvents, and then degummed, deacidified, bleached, and deodorized. This brings a higher yield, a more neutral oil, and a longer shelf life, but it also removes accompanying substances. Cold-pressed black cumin oil therefore retains its strong, spicy flavor, and that is exactly why some people prefer the capsule over the spoon.

Natural and synthetic vitamin E

The ingredient list says D-alpha-tocopherol, technically RRR-alpha-tocopherol. The three letters describe the spatial arrangement at three points in the molecule and stand for the form found in vegetable oils.

Synthetic vitamin E, listed in ingredient lists as DL-alpha-tocopherol, is instead a mixture of eight mirror-image variants, of which the natural form is only one. That is why nutritional labeling calculates the two differently. On the pack, you can see the difference only in that one letter.

Our black seed oil capsules are manufactured to the highest quality standards and independently tested for heavy metals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Take 2 capsules daily with sufficient liquid with a meal. A meal is sensible here because both the oil itself and the vitamin E it contains are fat-soluble. Whether in the morning or in the evening is up to you; many people take both capsules together with breakfast.

Above all, because of the taste. Black seed oil tastes distinctly bitter, sharp, and slightly metallic, which makes many people give up after the first few spoonfuls. The capsule completely avoids that. There are also two practical reasons: the amount is exactly the same each time, and the oil does not sit for weeks in an opened bottle exposed to air.

500 mg of organic black cumin oil per capsule, so two capsules provide 1,000 mg per day. It is extracted from the seeds of Nigella sativa, true black cumin, which botanically belongs to the buttercup family and is related neither to caraway nor to cumin.

Linoleic acid is the most important fatty acid in black cumin oil in terms of quantity and therefore serves as an indicator of the oil's quality. Each capsule is declared to contain 250 mg, which is half the amount of oil. It is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid that the body cannot produce on its own.

It serves two purposes. First, it protects the oil in the capsule from oxidation, because polyunsaturated fatty acids react sensitively to oxygen. Second, it is itself a declared nutrient: Two capsules provide 10 mg and thus 84 percent of the nutrient reference value. Vitamin E helps protect cells from oxidative stress. D-alpha-tocopherol, the natural form, is used.

Yes. The oil comes from controlled organic cultivation, certified according to the EU Organic Regulation with the inspection body number DE-ÖKO-039. The origin is listed as EU agriculture. In addition to oil, capsule shell, and vitamin E, the formula contains nothing else.

Yes, there are hardly any overlaps. Just watch your vitamin E intake if you are also taking a product that contains vitamin E, such as Prosta Plant or the Vitamin B Complex Active. If you take medication regularly, discuss the combination with your doctor or pharmacist beforehand.

The bottle contains 120 capsules and lasts 60 days at two capsules per day. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The amber glass blocks the UV portion of light, which is especially important for an oil-based product: light, heat, and oxygen are the three factors that cause polyunsaturated fatty acids to age.
