Three plant extracts with zinc, selenium, and vitamin E

The Prosta Plant capsules from Vitalplant combine three standardized plant extracts with four micronutrients. The extracts provide the amount, the nutrients provide the scientifically substantiated function.

The three plant extracts

Pumpkin seed extract, 350 mg per capsule. A 15:1 extract, meaning fifteen parts of raw material are used for one part of extract. The seeds of Cucurbita pepo, the oil pumpkin, are used.

Saw palmetto extract, 160 mg. A 10:1 extract standardized to 45 percent fatty acids. Serenoa repens is a fan palm from the southeastern USA; the fruits are used.

Nettle root extract, 60 mg. A 20:1 extract from the root of Urtica dioica. Unlike in tea, the leaf is not used here, but the root.

What zinc, selenium, and vitamin E do

Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood as well as to normal fertility and reproduction. One capsule contains 2.5 mg, which corresponds to 25 percent of the nutrient reference value.

Selenium contributes to normal sperm production. One capsule provides 27.5 micrograms and thus 50 percent of the nutrient reference value.

Vitamin E helps protect cells from oxidative stress. It contains 5.9 mg per capsule, also 50 percent of the nutrient reference value. All claims listed are registered in the EU Register of authorized health claims.

Prosta Plant capsules: composition and quality

In addition to the extracts and micronutrients, the formula contains 20 mg L-lysine, an essential amino acid. The capsule shell is made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. No fillers, no colorants. The product is vegan and gluten-free, filled in amber glass. Each batch is tested for heavy metals by an independent laboratory.

Behind Vitalplant is Christian Lazar, a licensed pharmacist with over 35 years of professional experience at Stern Apotheke.

The saw palmetto grows only in the southeastern United States

Serenoa repens is a low fan palm that forms extensive stands in the understory of Florida and the neighboring states. It owes its name to the fine teeth on the leaf stems, which act like a saw. Individual plants can live for a very long time, with estimates reaching well over one hundred years.

It is hardly cultivated. The dark fruits are harvested by hand from wild stands in late summer, which in Florida is a separate line of business with harvesting permits and regulated areas. They are then dried and extracted. Standardization to 45 percent fatty acids refers to the fat-soluble components of the fruit, not to an oil in the sense of a cooking oil.

A pumpkin that lacks the seed coat

In oil pumpkin, the seeds are shell-less, dark green, and soft. This trait goes back to a single mutation discovered in Styria around 1870 and since then continued through breeding.

Before that, the woody shell had to be removed in labor-intensive manual work. Without it, the seeds can be pressed or extracted directly, and that is exactly why oil pumpkin became an oil fruit in the first place. The flesh plays no role; it is left in the field.

Nettle root is not nettle leaf

The root and leaf of the same plant are two different raw materials in trade, with different compositions. The leaf goes into tea, while the root is harvested in autumn from perennial plants, washed, cut, and dried.

By the way, the famous stinging hairs are found exclusively on leaves and stems. They are individual cells reinforced with silica, whose tip breaks off like a glass ampoule when touched and leaves a sharp edge behind. There are none of them on the root.

Why 15:1, 10:1, and 20:1 stand side by side

Three extracts, three very different ratios. This is not due to different care, but to how much of the respective plant part is actually soluble. A hard root yields less than a fatty fruit, which is why more starting material is needed there for the same kilogram of extract.

A higher ratio therefore does not automatically mean a stronger extract. It only describes the yield. Two products can only be compared once the plant part, ratio, and, if applicable, the standardization value are all specified together. If one of these three details is missing, the milligram figure alone says little.

Our Prosta Plant capsules are manufactured to the highest quality standards and independently tested for heavy metals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Take 1 to 2 capsules daily, swallowed whole with plenty of liquid, with a meal. The meal is not a minor detail: the vitamin E it contains is fat-soluble and is better absorbed together with some fat from food. It doesn't matter whether you take it in the morning or evening. What matters more is that you choose a fixed time and stick to it.

Both are intended. Just one capsule covers 50 percent of the nutrient reference intake for vitamin E and selenium, and 25 percent for zinc. With two capsules, the amounts of the three plant extracts are doubled, and you reach 100 percent for selenium and just under 100 percent for vitamin E. If you want the plant component, take two; if you are mainly looking for micronutrients, one is enough.

In principle, yes. When doing so, add zinc and selenium together, because both are also included in other products in our range, such as the Men's Capsules, Zinc 25, and Selenium 200. Anyone taking several supplements in parallel should add up the daily amounts instead of looking at them individually. If you have questions about combining them with medication, your doctor or pharmacist is the right contact.

The extract ratio indicates how much raw material has gone into the extract. 15:1 means that 1 kilogram of extract is produced from 15 kilograms of pumpkin seeds. The 350 mg of pumpkin seed extract per capsule therefore corresponds mathematically to around 5.25 grams of pumpkin seeds. For the nettle root extract, the ratio is 20:1, and for the saw palmetto extract, it is 10:1.

This is standardization. Saw palmetto extracts are usually standardized to their free fatty acid content because this value varies from harvest to harvest. Our extract is standardized to 45 percent, so each batch delivers the same amount. Without such a specification, a milligram figure alone says little, which is exactly why it pays to compare when buying.

In addition to the three plant extracts and L-lysine, each capsule contains vitamin E, zinc, and selenium. The EU has approved claims for these three: zinc contributes to maintaining normal testosterone levels in the blood. Selenium contributes to normal sperm formation. Vitamin E helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

Simply continue as usual the next day. It is not sensible to take the forgotten capsule additionally afterward; the recommended intake should not be exceeded. In any case, missing a single day hardly matters for a product that is taken over several weeks.

Brown glass largely blocks the UV portion of light. This is relevant for vitamin E, because tocopherols are sensitive to light and oxygen, and it also protects the plant extracts. Glass also does not release anything into the contents, unlike some plastics. It is best to store in a cool, dry place and close the jar tightly again after removing the contents.
