Neither Resin nor Mineral

Frankincense and myrrh are true resins: a living tree secretes them when its bark is damaged. Shilajit forms differently. Here, plant material that was enclosed in rock fissures for a very long time is transformed under the interplay of pressure, cold, heat, and microorganisms.

The process is similar to the formation of humus in soil, but it takes place in rock and over far longer periods of time. That is why shilajit fits into none of the usual categories: it is not a plant extract, because no plant stands at the start of the capsule, and not a mineral, because it is organic.

What Fulvic and Humic Acids Are

Unlike vitamin C, for example, fulvic and humic acids are not single molecules with a fixed formula, but entire groups of substances made up of countless related compounds. They are therefore defined not by their structure, but by their behavior in the laboratory.

Humic acids dissolve in alkaline conditions and precipitate in acidic ones. Fulvic acids remain dissolved in both environments and are the smaller molecules. Anyone comparing analysis values from two products should therefore pay attention to the method: depending on the process, the same raw material can yield significantly different percentages.

Mumijo, Salajeet, Shilajit

Comparable masses are found not only in the Himalayas, but also in the Altai, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. In the Russian-speaking world, the substance is called Mumijo, in Pakistan Salajeet, and in Iran Mumnayi.

Origin and altitude have a significant influence on the composition, because the surrounding rock helps determine what ends up in the mass. A statement of origin alone therefore says little; only together with analysis values does it become meaningful.

Raw Mass and Extract

In stores, you come across two very different products. One is the sticky, tar-like raw mass, often in a glass jar, as it is traditionally dissolved in water after collection, filtered, and thickened again.

The other is a purified, dried powder extract standardized to consistent values, like the one in our capsules. The advantage lies less in convenience than in reproducibility: with a natural substance whose composition varies from fissure to fissure, a defined batch is the real quality feature.
